The Lynchburg YMCA Swim Team needs more swimmers! And we have found that our most effective means of recruitment is through the positive encouragement of our LY parents and swimmers. Many of you are heading out into summer league teams and we are hopeful that you’ll bring friends back with you in the fall when the short course season begins.
We recognize that economic times have caused some people to cut extracurricular activities like swimming from their budgets. Because of this, we are making a couple of changes to try to help LY be more affordable. One, beginning in the fall, we will offer a YMCA only track for swimmers in the Gold and Blue groups. This means these swimmers do not have to join USA Swimming and do not have to pay the USAS registration fee. Y-only swimmers will not be able to participate in USAS meets, but they can swim in YMCA meets if they wish and they can upgrade to USAS status at any time if they change their mind. In addition to this, the YMCA is willing to waive the joining fee in its entirety for swimmers joining the team in September. These two changes should create a substantial savings up front to new swimmers to our team.
Membership dues generate a good portion of our budget. In order for us to continue offering our program at the same cost without cutting any of our staff, we really need your help getting more bodies. No team in our area offers the knowledge and experience of our fully certified coaching staff, nor the safety of the YMCA and USAS for both swimmers and coaches. Please help us build your swimmer’s training group by promoting LY.
